Tip # 78 - Strategic Pauses & Slower Speeds

Our tip of the week on May 6th was submitted by Michelle Sauer, MS, CCC-SLP. She is a pediatric speech language pathologist and has found value in slowing down our songs to 80% speed and pausing after each word to allow students to take their time in repeating.

One such student, a 14-year old boy, exhibits dysarthric-like speech secondary to a rare medical diagnosis. While usually quite unmotivated, these techniques resulted in a high motivation for him to imitate the words. His mom even asked where she could get our songs to continue his learning at home. Bravo, Michelle!
